Review :  Ajith Kumar returns to the big screen in full force with *Good Bad Ugly*, a high-octane action drama that delivers on both style and substance. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, this film is a wild, unpredictable ride, and it’s clear from the very first frame that it was crafted with bold ambition.

Taxi driver Shanmugham (Mohanlal), known as Benz among family and friends, is a former film stunt assistant and a loving family man, whose adoration for his Mark 1 Ambassador is well-known. In fact, misusing his car once is the only reason for him to get angry with his son, Pavi, in an incident which spirals to an emotional storyline in the revenge drama.

Benz’s car gets taken in by the Ranni police over a drug smuggling issue that he isn’t involved in. After he uses various methods to get it back, the inspector and his subordinate (Prakash Varma and Binu Pappu) finally return it, but also engage him for a ride. After attending a night wedding party, the policemen coax him to drive through the forest and gradually, tell an angry and shocked Benz what has brought them there. Why was Benz engaged for this drive? How is he going to get out of the knots that the unscrupulous police have tied him

First things first — the earnest attempt at creating a whodunit murder mystery set against a vintage backdrop is highly commendable. The series beautifully captures the essence of a bygone era with impressive cinematography, meticulous art direction, and high production values. The ensemble cast delivers solid performances, drawing from a mix of silver screen actors and daily soap regulars. The initial episodes succeed in hooking the audience, setting up an intriguing premise where you’re left guessing: is it divine curse, a devil’s wrath, or man-made evil? The climax manages to stay unpredictable — a definite plus — but the lead-up feels stretched and a tad too convenient. The sequence of deaths eventually becomes repetitive, causing some loss of momentum. While the final twist redeems the series to an extent, it also feels like an afterthought rather than a well-planned reveal, making it surprising but not particularly thrilling. Another noticeable aspect is the continuous introduction of new characters mid-way, which, while adding layers, also tends to dilute the focus from the central mystery at times. That said, the sincere effort by the makers deserves recognition — especially the attempt to blend traditional storytelling with modern production techniques like VFX. In summary, Ayyana Mane is a laudable step forward, setting the stage for more regional stories, folklore, and hidden gems from across Karnataka to find a place on global OTT platforms. It is heartening to see such ventures taking shape, and one can only hope this is the beginning of many more to come.

Reviews: I think it's the best live action adaptation of Superman we've ever gotten. Superman is a farmboy, a nerd, paternal, communal, powerful, thoughtful and instead of being checked by whatever else filmmakers use, he's checked by his care for his family and friends, his responsibility to Earth, his stringent morals.

For a TV show, the SFX are AMAZING. You can tell they cut away from stuff to cut cost sometimes, but it's always done tastefully and organically - professionally. It feels like a real show and not like a CW backlot chintz fest. Not quite Game of Thrones level, but miles ahead of even Supergirl where this Clark and Lois technically started. The dark palette might help with this.

There are things I would do differently, in terms of the ages of the kids, in terms of the twists with the villains, and evil brother plotline is okay-ish and Biker Luthor isn't quite doing it for me, but overall Tyler Hoechlin's Superman IS Superman.

Review:After Chhorii 2, Amazon Prime’s Khauf attempts to carve its place in India’s evolving horror-thriller landscape. Set in the unsettling confines of a women’s hostel in Delhi, the series opens with a gripping premise: a haunted room with a tragic backstory and a protagonist trying to outrun her own demons. Creator and writer, Smita Singh — known for her work on Sacred Games and Raat Akeli Hai — crafts a tale that blends supernatural horror with psychological depth, though not without missteps.At its core, Khauf isn’t just about what goes bump in the night. It’s about the traumas that cling to people long after the lights are back on. Monika Panwar anchors the narrative as Madhu, a woman trying to rebuild her life but finding herself slowly consumed by inner turmoil and external hauntings. Panwar’s performance is the spine of the show — understated yet powerful. Her expressions convey volumes in moments of quiet dread and complete psychological breakdown, especially during scenes of possession that are chilling not because of the ghost, but because of what it unearths in her.

Movie Review: A sense of déjà vu washes over you as Raghu (Arulnithi), Debi (Priya Bhavani Shankar) and a monk see their faces appear on an unused television. All fans of the thrilling original, Demonte Colony, know that this special show is spearheaded by the ghost, the dead king. While the show last played on a small television screen in a colony-like apartment building in 2015, the latest version is telecasted on a huge LED screen hung in a Chinese restaurant in 2021. Yes, the ghost’s golden chain is stolen once again and the evil spirit is back.Director Ajay Gnanamuthu is well aware of the impact of the first film. So, the sequel picks up where the first film ends and even if the director wants to try something new, he ensures the screenplay circles back to something that reminds us of the original. However, such cues are organically sprinkled throughout the film. For instance, Debi meets Srinivasan (Arulnithi from the first film) for the first time when she coincidentally visits the astrologer (who was killed by the ghost) and later learns that Srinivasan has a twin brother named Raghu. Likewise, the horror sequences play out similarly to the original because it’s the ghost’s creative, copyrighted pattern of killing. And such moments make for some of the best sequences in Demonte Colony 2. It creates a certain setup where there is an eerie familiarity to the proceedings and the horror begins to kick in even before the actual ghost arrives.

Review: It is not every week that an Indian film attracts the attention of viewers across the globe. It is even rare that an independent film with first-time actors and a debutant director does so. But well, here is Chaitanya Tamhane’s 'Court', a film that has gone on to become the most decorated Indian film globally with as many as 19 awards to its credit.

There is a reason why many filmmakers shy away from taking on the country’s system of affairs. Many a times it’s the fear of backlash from hurt sentiments and sometimes it’s the problem of being asked to censor or water down scenes or the language used. But what Tamhane has achieved is unique in many aspects. Firstly, he took the bold decision of making his debut feature with a subject that exposes the flaws in the judiciary without being forceful (at most times, in a lighter vein). More importantly, he made a film that brought back focus back on meaningful Marathi cinema and ultimately on Indian cinema worldwide.

Review: :When Biggus Dickus is less a character name and more a posthumous condition, you get Perusu, a comedy that proves not everything stays down when you kick the bucket. Director Ilango Ram’s Tamil remake of his own hit Tentigo turns funeral preparations into a farcical circus when two brothers discover their recently deceased father sporting an enthusiastic farewell salute that simply won’t quit. Cue the panic as Durai (a perfectly buzzed Vaibhav) and Swammy (Sunil) desperately try to keep dad’s final stand from becoming the talk of their nosy small town.

Review : At one point in Odela 2, which for some reason completely shifts genres from its first installment, Naga Sadhu Bhairavi (Tamannaah Bhatia) lists out the required components for trapping the vengeful soul of the serial rapist from the first film. This is not a village that is new to such superstitions because Odela is a place where people decide to bury the sexual predator in such a way that his spirit never attains salvation. On paper, this is a fine idea because why shouldn’t a predator be subject to eternal damnation? Coming back to the point where Bhairavi lists out the components… for some random reason, it is Murli Sharma’s Allah Bakshu, a local Muslim baba, who explains everything to the villagers. Why should he do it? It is not a hat-tip to Manichitrathazhu and Chandramukhi where the occult rituals and scientific temper join forces to vanquish the ‘spirit’. There is no such collaboration in Odela 2, and after a point, Murli is forgotten. As the film should be too.
